Adding Whois Privacy

Last Updated: Jul 14, 2022

Whois Privacy is a service included in our Advanced Security product. So if you want to add Whois Privacy to a domain, you can do so by purchasing the Advanced Security product. To read more about the product please refer to this Knowledge Base article.

What is Whois?

Whenever a domain name is registered, ICANN requires the registrar to publish valid contact details associated with the domain name. These contact details are publicly available in a Whois index.

Understandably, not everyone is comfortable having their contact information public and there are some risks associated with not guarding those details. We highly recommend that you add Whois Privacy protection to your domain name.

To add Whois Privacy protection, through our Advanced Security product, please follow these simple steps:

  1. Log into your Name.com account.
  2. From the top menu, click My Domains link to the top right of the navigation.
  3. Here you will find a list of all the domains in your account. Locate the domain name you would like to add Advanced Security for and click the Get Whois Privacy link in the Whois column.
  4. The product is now in your cart and you can proceed to checkout by clicking the green Checkout Button or by clicking on the Cart.

Note: Not all TLDs allow you to use Advanced Security. See the full list of TLDs that do not support Whois Privacy
